“Jesus said to him, “If you can believe, all things are possible to him who believes.” Mark 9:23
Do you believe? Do you know that all things are possible if you believe? In the passage above a father brings his demon-possessed son to Jesus. He wanted to see his son restored and nothing was more important to him but to bring his son to Jesus. He knew Jesus had the power to heal him.
When he got to where Jesus was the father faltered slightly in his faith. He said, “If you can do anything, have compassion on us and help us.” Mark 9:22. Jesus sensing the man’s doubts replied, “ If you can believe, all things are possible with him who believes.” Verse 23. Without any hesitation, the father pleaded, “Lord I believe, help my unbelief.” Verse 24
At first glance you might say, “What an odd statement does this man believe or not?” The father however was crying out in complete honesty. He knew that he did not have to puff up his faith to look good before Jesus. He knew he believed in Jesus but he still had concerns for his son that could make him waver in his faith.
How about us? Do we believe that God has the power to change our lives? Do we allow outside influences to affect our faith in God? If so we need to be honest with God about our fluctuating faith. Don’t try to make it more than it is. Remember His power is not relying on your confidence in Him. God can do anything. He is in control each and every day. Trust Him only.
