Prayerlessness

“Draw near to God and He will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners; and purify your hearts, you double minded.” James 4:8.

How is your prayer life? Is prayer a priority in your life? Do you not allow anything to come between you and your time with God.? Do you allow your prayer life to fall by the wayside?

These are all good questions to ask ourselves. Saying a rote prayer before meals or at night when you lay down to sleep does not cut it. If prayer is a priority we will set aside times in our schedules to get close to God. I have to confess that so often the tyranny of time digs into my time with the Lord. We are so busy that we almost feel that we have no time to pray. Yet prayer needs to come first before everything else. I sometimes wonder if God allowed this virus to hit the world in order for us to slow down and turn back to Him.

Are we so comfortable with our lives that we don’t see the necessity to pray. Are we so comfortable that we rely on ourselves more than we do on God? Do we only use God as a last resort in the midst of a major crisis? I am afraid we see God so often as our doctor, who we only see when there is an emergency in our lives.

I really see this principle at work in our corporate prayer meetings at church. Attendance is dwindling down and down and is mostly filled with people over the age of sixty. Why is that? Is it because we feel that we can better spend this time away with our families? Is it because we have become stale in the way we pray? If so lets change the way and not drop the most important activity that we can do.

Let’s renew our prayer lives. Do not be distant from your Heavenly Father. When we do we will find that we have more time for other things. Pray without ceasing. In every thing give thanks.
