Be Still

“Be still and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth.” Psalm 46:10

How often have you heard someone say, “ Don’t just stand there! Do something about it! This call to action is the battle cry of our world today. However if we try to apply this same principle to our spiritual lives we will run into danger.

Have you found yourself acting as if God needs your help in accomplishing something? We try to take control of a situation in our lives and help God to the result that we want to see. Often we make a statement, “Okay God I think this is what You want to happen so I will work and work and work to make that outcome occur.”

We think in our minds, “God helps those who help themselves.” We even think that this time honoured counsel is in the Bible. I have news for you, It is not in it.

This statement is the complete opposite to the Word of God. God tells us in Psalm 46:10 to be still. He knows that we cannot help ourselves. That is the reason He sent His Son Jesus to save us from our sins. In and of ourselves we are helpless. We cannot do anything but be still and let God have complete control.
If we want to do God’s will then we must not forget His call for us to be still. When we do this we are the most teachable.

Don’t try to keep up with God. Forget your efforts and be completely still. You may see God revolutionize your call of service. Cease your efforts and be still. God is God.
