Director of Children's Ministries

Reports to: The Senior Pastor

Hours of Work: 20-25 hours per week

  • Ability to work on Pastoral staff team

Primary Duty:

  • Minister to the families and children of the congregation of Emmanuel Baptist Church, with emphasis on providing support and encouragement to children in Sunday School, and day camp, and also children and families of our community.
  • Ignite a desire for a genuine relationship with Christ in children and to equip them to know, love and serve Christ
  • Teach a bible-based curriculum and encourage a biblical based life-style among children and their families.
  • Promote scripture memorization, prayer, and personal bible reading in families
  • Provide opportunities for ministry leadership and outreach to the community
  • Support the Children’s Ministry Assistant and their role leading Kids Club
  • Organize and implement evangelistic summer day camps

Responsibilities:

  • Choose and prepare Sunday School curriculum for each age level, ensuring it aligns with overall doctrine and vision of the church
  • Recruit, interview, schedule and lead teams of volunteers
  • Meet regularly with the Children’s Ministry Assistant regarding all aspects of Kids Club
  • Provide support to the Nursery Coordinator
  • Plan and chair meetings for Children’s Ministry volunteers, to update all volunteers on events, resources, and guidelines, with encouragement
  • Collect input from ministry volunteers with respect to budget needs, new ministry ideas, as well as curriculum opportunities
  • Ensures that Children’s Ministry volunteers are regularly recognized and appreciated
  • Keep inventory of all ministry resources and ensure all resources are functioning and readily available to ministry servants
  • Create and maintain records for various ministries in the church database (e.g. class lists, family data, inventory lists)
  • Attend and provide input at other church or ministry meetings and staff meetings as needed
  • Promote ministry through various forms of media and website pages
  • Ensure a safe physical, emotional and spiritual environment for children
  • Ensure police checks, offense declarations and code of conduct requirements are being met by volunteers
  • Develop and maintain a strategy for reaching new children and families
  • Communicate with parents and provide resources for spiritual development
  • Plan special events such as Harvest Party, Easter or March Break event, Gr. 5 Grad, Sunday School Offering Projects
  • Complete high school volunteer sheets and reference requests
  • Execute Day Camp program including hiring staff, recruiting volunteers, implementing programs and administering budget. (See Below)

 Day Camp General Job Description

  • Complete Ontario Summer Grant Application based on staff and elders requirements and follow up on all paper work required if the grant is received
  • Choose a theme and Gospel based curriculum for camp
  • Implement and maintain budget for camp
  • Plan camp dates and fees
  • Maintain website with all day camp details
  • Renew on-line registration software and prepare registration forms
  • Work closely with the finance team in preparing payment links and balancing all payments
  • Recruit all roles for day camp including teachers, elective leaders, team leaders, afternoon monitors, child care, family night volunteers, set design team, etc.
  • Work closely with Youth Pastor in the application and hiring process of all summer staff, as well as assign duties to summer staff and monitor these roles 
  • Organize details of day camp including program preparation, ordering t-shirts, booking buses and reserving afternoon venues
  • Meet regularly with camp teachers, elective leaders, staff and team leaders to provide training and instructions
  • Provide overall leadership during day camp to ensure excellent program execution with availability to help out wherever needed
  • Ensure a smooth clean up process after day camp with any required follow up and meet with all staff for an event debriefing
  • Prepare an annual camp report
