Living Faith

Living Faith

Hebrews 11:1-16

“You should earnestly contend for the faith which was once delivered unto the saints.” Jude. 3

Hebrews 11 describes what living faith is. It empowers us to live as God would have us live. It carries us through the times of trials and troubles, as well as through times of prosperity. We are living in times of trouble and its more important than ever to have a living faith. People are looking at the way we as Christian are responding in these difficult time. Are we calm and loving, or are we like many hoarding and panicking? Let’s make sure we are a godly example for everyone.

Dirk Willems also embraced his faith. To him a faith worth living for was also a faith worth dying for. Dirk, after fleeing for his life saw his pursuer fall through the ice on the lake. Dirk’s faith carried him back to help the man who was seeking his life. Dirk helped the man to get out of the icy water and was promptly arrested and sentenced to be burned at the stake. On the day of his execution, a strong east wind limited the flames to the lower part of his body and brought great pain to this follower of Christ. He cried out “Oh God” around seventy times and it was heard in the nearby town of Leerdom. Finally they made a quick end to his life. His faith had brought him to this hour and sustained him to be faithful even though he was burned alive.

What does our faith do for us? Will it carry you through this time of trouble and self isolation we are experiencing? Will it help you as you may face unemployment or a loss of all of your investments? Does it cause you to love your neighbours more? Is it strong enough to bring you back to prayer meetings once they restart in your church? Is it challenging you to give financially to the church even though your own situation is in peril?

True faith focuses on God instead of life’s problems. Now is the time to let your faith shine for Jesus. He will see us through this crisis. Trust Him.
