A New Outlook

“ For the Mighty One has done great things for me; and Holy is His name."
Luke 1:49. NASB

August 26 1956, my sister entered this world. She was number 9 of ten children born to my parents, and a sister to me. After a few days in the hospital, it became apparent that there was something seriously wrong with her. She had a bigger than normal head and a sizeable whole in her heart. Doctors told my parents that she would be basically live like a vegetable with a life expectancy of ai few years and six at the most.

My parents brought her home and loved on her. She cried an awful lot as I remember ,but she also loved it when I would hide in her room and surprise her by jumping out of my hiding spot. I was just a young boy four years older than her but she made a profound impact on me and I also believe the rest of my family. Her only word that she could say was, “Buba” and I just found out that word means Father in different countries of the world. I have often said that she was an angel sent from God. I believe now when she said Buba she was talking to her Heavenly Father.

Now that I am a senior and as I reflect back on the times I would complain about having to be quiet so that Ellen could sleep I realize that I had nothing to complain about. The Mighty One has done great things for me, and Holy is His name..

Ellen lived on this earth for 37 years and taught us all some great life lessons. She was never able to walk talk or feed herself and yet she was joyful in so many circumstances. She loved to laugh and when she did it was contagious. She had such big warm eyes and it seemed to me that she understood us even though she could not respond. Her path lead to many hardships and difficulties for her and my family. The thought struck me, “ who am I to complain about my own life?” Who am I to say that life is not easy? Who am I to say that life is unfair?

Looking back on my life, I realized that the, “ The Mighty One has done great things for me! He chose me to be His son even though I do not deserve it. He chose me to serve Him. He gave me a life partner, better than I could have chosen, who has stood with me over the last 47 years together. He chose me to serve in His church and to expand His kingdom in Ecuador. And he chose me to ta adopt one of his angels just like Ellen from Ecuador. The Mighty One has been good to me and has given me life abundantly. He has given me people to love and to cherish. What a gift from the Holy One! I have much to be thankful for and much for which to praise His name!

When I look for the “ great things the Lord has done for me,” then I am truly able to praise His holy name.

🙏. Father, Your name is to be praised for you have done great and mighty things. Forgive me when I complain, I have nothing to complain about. You have loved me and bless me even when I sin against You. You loved me so much that You sent Your Son to die for my sins. He paid the price for me and all I can say is Blessed be Your name. I love You Lord.

Amen
